DR. ARABIN® Hodge Pessary

The Hodge pessary is meanwhile only used in patients when ring pessaries are not functional or tolerated because of anatomical aberrations or earlier operations.

Description

The hodge pessary consists of high-quality silicone with a half-stiff aluminium filling to allow different shaping. It can be stored at temperatures from 1 to 50 °C protected from UV radiation without contact to reactive media, gas, ozone or mineral oil.

Application

The Hodge pessary is used to treat urinary incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse when other models are not tolerated. This can be caused by previous operations or rare genital malformations. The aluminium core allows individual adjustment of the shape. It is assumed that the patient still has (albeit reduced) pelvic floor function. The aim of treatment is to reduce the patient’s prolapse or incontinence symptoms, also combined with additional measures, and to prevent incontinence from deteriorating.

Note

The maximal uninterrupted period of application is 30 days. It is recommended that the patient changes the pessary herself, i.e. she may remove it in the evening and insert it in the morning. The patient should be trained about application, change or additional therapies by healthcare professionals.

The pessary contains a metal spring for stabilization. This can affect test results (e.g. CT, MRI, X-ray) and security controls (e.g. at the airport) and might acquire removal.

The product must not be used by other patients. The pessary may be cleaned by running water without using any disinfectant.
