The Hodge pessary was introduced as a stiff ring bended in two dimensions, whereby the „elevation of the uterus“ was the primary aim, an indication which has lost its significance. Our Hodge pessary consists of silicone with a half-stiff aluminium filling thus being comfortable and allowing for various shaping and adapting to individual circumstances. The Hodge pessary is meanwhile only used in cases with incontinence, if ring pessaries are not tolerated because of anatomical aberrations mostly caused by earlier operations.

The maximal uninterrupted period of application is 28 days. It is recommended that the patient changes the pessary herself, i.e. she may remove it in the evening and insert it in the morning. The patient should be trained about application / change by a healthcare professional.
The pessary includes a metal spring for stabilization. This can negatively affect test results (e.g. CT, MRI, X-ray). It can positively affect magnetic security controls (e.g. at the airport). Please remove before medicals / security checks.

The product must not be used by other patients and be stored by room temperature. The pessary may be cleaned under warm running water without using any disinfectant. The material can be cleaned and disinfected preferably with aldehyd-containing solutions (Gigasept FF). The pessary can also be sterilized by steam (134ºC /3,8 bar) or hot air (250ºC).
